LEELA STARTED A SEARCH for The Maiden’s Collar but she was struggling to focus.

She glanced up at Finn. He was absorbed with his phone and didn’t even notice her stealing looks at him.

What was he thinking? Feeling? Was he feeling anything?

After their night—and morning—together, she felt altered.

My God! She’d had no idea he was so damn good. His mouth, his hands...amazing...his cock was perfect. Having sex with him was different, more intense, more...something...than she’d ever experienced. After years of fantasizing, it felt like a dam had broken. Now that she’d had a taste, she couldn’t get enough of him. Twice in the past twelve hours and she just wanted more and more and more.

But it was more than fucking. Of course, it was—this was Finn. Every yearning she’d ever tamped down was rising and expanding and demanding satisfaction. Finn. Finn. Finn. Her soul called to him.

And where was Finn?

All the way across the room.

He didn’t seem to be affected at all.

It had only taken about two seconds after cumming that morning for him to go all impassive, detached, and closed. It was a lot like that summer when she was sixteen when he’d told her she was a distraction and he didn’t have time to play with children anymore. His expression turned angry and his attention went inward.

It wasn’t fair that he could just turn it off like that. She stuck her tongue out at him as he continued to stare at his phone, then returned her focus to her computer.

It mentioned a village that claimed ownership of the legend, saying the necklace was buried in the hills below Volcán Tacaná and was the reason for their continuous prosperity.

She searched again, adding the word prosperity.

Leela followed a link to a page that was dedicated to Mayan legends of powerful talismans. The necklace was said to have the power to ensure its owner and their family infinite riches. Okay, well that explained the draw.

But it obviously wasn’t in the Yucatán Peninsula anymore. How did it end up in Jackson’s hands?

Leela did a search for the name of the village and the word robbery.

Along with local crime reports of minor home robberies and one restaurant break-in, a local newspaper article popped up. It was written in Spanish, but the title included the name of the village and included a Spanish word that looked similar to archeology. Seemed promising. Though she knew some Spanish, it wasn’t enough to get through the article quickly so she moved it through a translator. It was dated only a few weeks earlier and claimed that an archeological site had been ransacked by thieves. Evidently, a ton of scientific equipment, as well as ancient Mayan artifacts that had been collected from the dig had been stolen.

Was that it? Was that where the necklace had
